Soul singer Major Lance was a protege, of sorts, of legendary Chicago soulman Curtis Mayfield. Mayfield wrote a string of hits for Lance back in the early to mid-sixties, including Um Um Um Um Um, Rhythm, and The Matador. However, Lance's biggest hit written by Mayfield was his first top ten smash, The Monkey Time, which started a dance craze when it first hit the pop charts. Lance was not only a fine singer, but a great dancer too, as he showed in his live performances. This is Major Lance, appearing live on TV to sing The Monkey Time. Check out his footwork while you're watching.
