Perceptions are interesting. Take for instance the Beatles. John Lennon was perceived to be the real rocker in the group. Paul McCartney? Many thought of him as more pop-oriented, even more of a soft-rock singer. Yet, in their post-Beatles days, Lennon made a song as soft, gentle, and meaningful as Imagine, while McCartney showed he could rock out, especially on his album Band On The Run.
The Band On The Run album took some time to establish itself, starting out with rather slow sales, but has gone on to be McCartney's most popular post-Beatles album. As for the title song, Band On The Run, it rocked as hard as anything the Beatles did back in the sixties, and climbed to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.
