Hot Fun with Sly's Family Stone

Editor's Note: When I was in SanFran in the late 60's Sylvester Sly Stone was one of the top R&B disc jockeys in town. He was also very much a presence, turning up at events with two huge Mastif Dogs on leashes and the outlandish garb he became famous for. One night I bumped into him and he said, "I'm gonna make records man," Really, I thought, why walk away from a great radio career, to try the chancey music business? Before long he showed me. — The Don

Summertime...and it's time for some more summertime music. Sylvester Stewart grew up in Denton, Texas before heading out to the west coast, giving himself a new name, producing hit records for several groups, including the Beau Brummels, then forming perhaps the seminal funk rock group of all time. I'm talking, of course, about Sly Stone, and his group, Sly & The Family Stone.

Late in the sixties, the group released what would become one of the most popular summer songs of them all, and a laid back hit for the group better known for their hard soul...Enjoy the summer with Sly & The Family Stone, and "Hot Fun In The Summertime."
