Singer and songwriter Terry Stafford was born in Hollis, Oklahoma...also the hometown of longtime University of Texas coaching legend Darrell Royal. Stafford was raised in the Panhandle city of Amarillo, and he was blessed with a singing voice that made him sound much like Elvis Presley. Matter of fact, Stafford, in 1963, recorded an Elvis song that hadn't been released as a single, Suspicion, and took it all the way to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 music charts. Suspicion was Stafford's only number one song as a singer, but he scored a massive country hit as a songwriter with Amarillo By Morning, which country superstar George Strait would record and which would go on to become one of the biggest country hits in modern times. This is Terry Stafford, sounding a whole lot like Elvis, with his number one hit from 1963.
