1965 was a great year for Motown's Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. Some music fans considered them Motown's "B team" after Diana Ross & The Supremes, but the Vandellas took a backseat to nobody during the mid-sixties. One of their classic hits was also one of the hardest-rocking songs ever recorded at Motown, "Nowhere To Run."
"Nowhere To Run" was produced and written by Motown's "A team," Holland-Dozier-Holland. It climbed all the way to Number Eight on Billboard's Hot 100 music chart in '1965, and Number Five on the R&B chart. Rolling Stone magazine also picked "Nowhere To Run" as Number 368 on their listing of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
This is Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, and Nowhere To Run.
