I wasn't a big fan of the Disco Craze, my preferences were always for Rock, but there were some good records made for dancing. Knock On Wood by Amii Stewart was one of those. Here's John Hale with the story. -- TDR
It was great dance music, but I've never been the biggest fan of disco music. That being said, some of the best disco music is some of the best dance pop and soul ever recorded. One disco hit that definitely deserves mention as a great rocking dance song is Amii Stewart's discoed-version of "Knock On Wood," the old Eddie Floyd hit.
Stewart's hit came along at the tail end of the disco era, and managed to make it to Number 6 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and Number 5 on the R&B chart. It was such a disco dance anthem that an updated version of the song was used a few years later in the movie "54," about the famous dance club in New York City. For her part, Stewart, who'd recorded in gospel music, was a bit ashamed of her secular hit, even if it did make her some money. This is Amii Stewart and the dance anthem Knock On Wood.
