A giant among the early Rock and Roll stars, Chuck Berry has continued well into his 80s performing and thrilling crowds. Johnny Be Good was one of the first records I played on the radio, and I can still feel the rush of the monitor turned up to 10 and the windows shaking in the studio.
He was a master of the guitar and wrote some really great and iconic songs, instantly recognizable from the first chords he played. Chuck had a terrific influence on the second wave of rockers from the Beatles and Stones to Bob Dylan, everyone cited Berry as having an impact on their music.
Some of his hits included, "Maybellene," "Roll Over Beethoven," "Rock and Roll Music," and "Johnny B. Goode." In concert he did his strange, but cool, Duck Walk across the stage amusing the screaming fans. One of his greatest fans, Keith Richards, made a documentary film called, 'Hail, Hail, Rock and Roll," about Chuck for his 60th birthday.
