I was at ABC Records when we had a couple of hits with an unlikely looking artist named: JIM CROCE. He was on the way to Dallas in a small plane, very similar to the one Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens died in, and never made it to the gig. To add to the tragedy he was a new father and left his wife with a child to raise alone. Jim was a witty and intelligent guy, a serious writer that could knock out tunes like pancakes, and his death was a shock to all of us who worked with him. One of his biggest hits, and my personal favorites is: BIG BAD LEROY BROWN, and here he is singing it live on The Midnight Special.@TheRealDonRocks
