You wouldn't think that good looks would work against someone, but in Ricky Nelson's case, they did. The one time early rock & roll singer was an early television star on The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet, and he was also a fine singer. However, because of his youthful good looks, Nelson was lumped in with other, much less talented "teen idol" singers like Fabian, Frankie Avalon, and Bobby Rydell. In fact, Rick Nelson's rockabilly credentials matched up with any of the best, including his idol, Carl Perkins.
Nelson also knew how to put a band together...his lead guitarist for years was the soon-to-be legendary James Burton from Shreveport, and his bassist, Joe Osborne, later went on to back up Johnny Rivers on many of his early hits. Nelson continued to perform before his untimely death when his airplane crashed in a field outside of DeKalb, Texas while he was on his way to perform in Dallas. This is Rick Nelson, and one of his early rockabilly hits, It's Late, with James Burton playing lead guitar.
