Linda Ronstadt was not only born and blessed with a beautiful voice, but she was really cute too, a great combo. She tended to date songwriters, J.D. Souther when I met her, and record their work. Later in her career working with the great producer Peter Asher (Peter and Gordon) she expanded to covers of hits outside her sphere. Her rendition of he great Smokey Robinson song, Ooh Baby, Baby, is considere one of the great covers of all time. Here's John Hale. - TDR
Remakes of hit records generally aren't as good as the originals, but there are some exceptions to that rule. Linda Ronstadt, in the seventies, did her take on the classic Smokey Robinson & The Miracles hit, "Ooh Baby Baby," and she absolutely nailed the song, capturing the passion and sensuousness of Smokey's original version, in the process taking "Ooh Baby Baby" back into the Top 10. Ronstadt even got the chance to perform the hit with its' originator, dueting with Smokey Robinson on the hit Motown 25 TV special back in 1983.
"Ooh Baby Baby" by Linda Ronstadt was one remake that was every bit the equal of the original version...even Smokey Robinson said so in an '83 interview.
