Maurice and the Zodiacs Wanted You To Stay

The Doo-Wop/R&B Group: Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs had a huge hit with their recording: "STAY," in 1961. In the late 50's and early 60's it was common for Groups to try out different names for size; before they became the Zodiacs, these guys were also: The Charms, The Gladiola's and The Excellos...Zodiac was the name of a British Ford car they saw one day.

Deejays loved 'Stay' because it was only about a minute and a half long, and enabled us to play more tunes in each quarter hour, remember: MUCH MORE MUSIC, well records like this were helpful. Fun Fact: Stay was the shortest record ever to reach the #1 Spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Sadly, this is another One Hit Wonder story, but Maurice did O.K.; the tune he wrote was covered by no less than: The Hollies, Four Seasons and Jackson Brown, and he got royalties on every record sold. @therealdonrocks
