Cherry Cherry Was Neil's First Big Hit

September 2, 2016

Few people realize that pop music legend Neil Diamond has been performing to packed audiences for five decades. Diamond first became known nationally in the mid-sixties with a moderate hit in Solitary Man. However, it would be his second release, Cherry Cherry in 1966 that firmly established him as the consistent hitmaker he was to become.

Diamond wrote Cherry Cherry and well-known songwriters and producers Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich produced it. Cherry Cherry would climb as high as number six on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart in the fall of '66, and would eventually be certified gold for sales of more than a million records.

Rolling Stone magazine has called Cherry Cherry one of the greatest three chord songs of all time. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. @therealdonrocks
