One more Flash Back to the Acid Music days: I had to add the STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK, and their big hit in 1967, INCENSE AND PEPPERMINTS. That's a lot of sugar, but the tune was a huge hit and made #1 on The Hot 100, going Gold.
There was an interesting story about the vocal on the song. Producer Frank Slay said that he and the band were not impressed by the singing of John Carter, who wrote the song. So he brought in a 16 year old kid named, Greg Munford, from another L.A. Band, "Shapes of Sound," who killed it, Incense and Peppermints stayed on the Charts for 16 weeks with one week at the Top of the Charts. Here's a great color clip, with good sound from 1967.
