The Exciters wanted to tell him

THE EXCITERS were an early girl group that set the stage for those to come like Phil's Group, the RONETTES; Chicks with attitude and not afraid to show their sexy side. (Yes we called them chicks then, sorry). They were signed by Leiber and Stoller for United Artists, whom I imagine you've gathered by now reading TDR, were very influential and successful Writers/Producers, Brill Building style. Jerry and Mike added a guy to the group, when one of the ladies left.

The tune, TELL HIM; would go Top 5 in 1963, and got big play on the AM Top 40's, but it would be there only Big Hit. After leaving U.A. they signed with other NYC characters like Morris Levy and Bert Berns, but the magic was gone.

One of the early lessons learned in the Record Business was: Sometimes it was THE SONG, not the artists that people bought the records for. Of course in other cases like Elvis and the Beatles when they were hot they could have recorded chopped liver and sold a million. So here are The Exciters with an early film of their hit, "Tell Him," that some genius apparently decided to shoot at the ZOO. Who knows? @therealdonrocks
