Watch Young Leon Russell Play Roll Over Beethoven

Every once in a while Scott will find a buried treasure in the Rock Video world, and this is definitely one of them. As he said: "An impossibly young LEON RUSSELL doing "Roll Over Beethoven" on TV in 1964.The boy from Tulsa who played in the School Band and was recognized as a Musical Genius making the song his own.

Leon's formal music training is apparent in his introduction to the song, and then he Rocks. This was about 3 years before I met him playing with Gary Lewis and the Playboys, but he had changed quite bit even by then, and one day he'd be totally Freaked Out. But not at this point, Elvis-y sideburns and a formal coat with tails were as far as it went. The Kinescope Film recording which was bounced to Video Tape is ancient but viewable, and the sound is enhanced to the max. Crank it up... This one is Fun! @therealdonrocks
