Don's Garage Sale: An American Pie Story

One of the biggest songs of the 70's was by DON McLEAN and his Megahit, AMERICAN PIE. I've written about this before, but this is a great story. Many years ago I decided to clean out some of the piles of vinyl albums that were taking up too much room in the house. So one Saturday I schlepped a couple of hundred out into the driveway, made a sign, BIG RECORD SALE, brought out a folding chair into the shade and popped a top waiting for customers.

Quite a few cars stopped and I was a bit surprised at how fickle some folks were when the albums, some still with the Shrink Wrap, and others marked: For Promotion Only, weren't moving that fast at $1 a pop. Then this kid, probably 11 or 12, cruises up on his bike and says, "Do you have American Pie?" I told him no, but there's a lot of other great stuff in there. He turned around and wheeling off said, "Never Mind." Our old videos of Don and his signature song were all pretty lame, usually just a lot of pictures, graphics or lyrics: then the other day Scott found a Live performance video of him singing it Live in1972, with great color picture and sound. @therealdonrocks
