James and Carly Rocked On and Offstage

JAMES TAYLOR's and CARLY SIMON's marriage always seemed kind of strange to me; everyone knew James was (allegedly) a junkie (It's truly a miracle that he is still alive, healthy and productive) and Carly was a Man-Magnet, (and this guy was "so vain") but it happened and the marriage lasted for 11 years producing two great kids: Sarah "Sally" Maria Taylor (born 1974) and Benjamin "Ben" Simon Taylor (born 1977), who are now political activists.

During their time together James and Carly loved to make music together, both at home and publicly, and they also recorded together cutting the tune, MOCKINGBIRD, that had been a hit in the mid-60's by Inez and Charlie Foxx, whom James had seen perform it back then. The session was incredible, Dr. John on piano, Robbie Robertson-guitar and the legendary Sax Man Michael Brenner joining in. It was almost immediately a Pop Hit, perfect for radio, Short and Sweet.

Mockingbird climbed to #5 and earned them twin Gold Records. I'm not going to go into the problems the marriage suffered, or why he won't speak to her anymore, but I will have the pleasure of presenting this great video, with the couple in their Prime and in Love..sometimes things don't last forever. This one is too much Fun. @therealdonrocks [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]A version of this post originally appeared on The Don Rocks Facebook page.
