Although a little past our Golden Age of Rock period, Scott and I felt it would be right to report the death yesterday of JOHN WETTEN of the group ASIA. Asia was a Super-Group made up of 70's heavy weight musicians including: Lead Vocalist and Bassist John Wetton of King Crimson, Guitarist Steve Howe of Yes, Keyboardist Geoff Downes of Yes, and Drummer Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Their 1982 album, ASIA, went to #1 driven by the Top 40 hit singles: "Heat of the Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell," and then the pretty boys exploded on MTV. The group Asia released 14 popular albums between 1982 and 2014, becoming a standard on AOR FM Radio, and then Classic Rock. There have been many personnel changes over the years, but they still tour, currently playing in arenas with Journey.
John Wetten died of Cancer on January 31, he was 67. He will be replaced in Asia by his old Yes bandmate, Billy Sherwood. Here's the original lineup of Asia back in the early '80's in a beautifully produced video of: "Heat of the Moment," with the late John Wetten singing lead, and excellent Picture and Sound. Bless his Rock and Roll Soul.
