I'm digging deep into the Groove Yard here, back to 1956, and what was basically a Country to Pop crossover hit, SONNY JAMES singing: YOUNG LOVE. It sounded great on the radio, I remember like yesterday, and topped both the Pop and Country Charts; and in a rare turnaround was covered by Movie Idol Tab Hunter the next year 1957, and once again was #1.
Sonny would go on to have 20 #1 singles on the country charts, but would never to be heard again on Pop Radio as the Rock and Roll Storm took over. He was a good guy and beloved in the C&W music world, becoming a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the first Country Star to receive a plaque on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"The Southern Gentleman" as he was known passed away of natural causes in 2016, at a ripe old age of 87. Here he is in an amazing well preserved color film clip with good sound doing his signature hit live.
