1-Hit Wonder: Brother Louie

Time to open the One Hit Artists Closet and pull out a good one. In 1973 the group STORIES had a #1 Top 40 hit with the song titled: BROTHER LOUIE, a song about an inter-racial love affair. The New York-based band was formed in 1972 to be a Beatles style group.

Keyboardist Michael Brown had Hit Record Experience, he had been leader of the Left Banke, of "Walk Away Renee" fame and knew how to play the game. Their 5th single was a cover of a Hot Chocolate song that had done well in England, but not well in the U.S. Then came "Brother Louie."

The song was released at just the right time and became a big Top 40 hit. The song is very infectious, a real ear-bug; but alas, it would be the end of the story for the Stories who weren't able to make a second hit. Luckily the videos from Midnight Special have been preserved and restored so they Look and Sound Good, as this video with the Stories in Live performance doing their hit in 1973 on TV. @therealdonrocks
