Pat Benatar: Hit Me With Your Best Shot

TDR-Classic Artist and Song, PAT BENATAR and HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT. I realized it was time to once again pay tribute to one of the Fine Ladies in Rock and Roll...and who better than that Glass Ceiling Breaker, Pat Benatar. (Patricia Mae Andrzejewski) Along with Joan Jett, Sheryl Crow and others, Pat was a girl who knew how to do Rock and Roll and did it. Fresh out of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and trained as a Coloratura with plans to attend the Juilliard School, she went to Stony Brook instead, but dropped out after the first year to marry her High School sweetheart, Dennis Benatar who was in the Army. While he was a Ft. Lee, she worked as a bank teller near Richmond.

After attending a Liza Minnelli Concert, she quit the bank and started singing. She worked with a lounge band and made an early single, but wouldn't record again until her 1979 album: "In The Heat Of The Night," after signing with Chrysalis Records. She was singing at night at Catch A Rising Star in NYC, and the Club's owner, Rick Newman, became her manager. She and Dennis parted ways in 1978, but she kept his name. Her album, "In The Heat Of The Night, caught fire driven by two singles, "Heart Breaker" and "We Live For Love," and went to #12 in 1980 and selling platinum...she was on her way.

Pat Benatar would go on to win 4 Grammy's and "two RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums, five platinum albums, three gold albums, and 15 Billboard Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits "Hit Me with Your Best Shot", "Love Is a Battlefield", "We Belong", and "Invincible".

Not bad for a pioneer Rock and Roll Lady. Besides her own great success, including sold out tours, she helped make a Female Fronting a Band just all right, and opened doors for numerous ladies to come. For the TDR Tribute Video, Scott selected a great clip of Pat doing "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," Live with her band on a sound stage with excellent audio and video of her in her prime in 1980. @therealdonrocks
